BALTIMORE -- Jon Jones had the Baltimore crowd roaring when he broke out the "squirrel" dance made famous by Ray Lewis. It was just the opening act of a dazzling performance. "I hope I got the dance right," Jones said. He nailed it -- then went out and punished Glover Teixeira. Jones flawlessly mixed jabs and elbows in one of the greatest fights of his career, winning a unanimous decision over Teixeira on Saturday night at UFC 172, successfully defending his light heavyweight championship for the seventh straight time. Jones (20-1) won 50-45 on all three scorecards and rolled to his 11th straight victory, the longest streak among active UFC fighters. "I think it was the best peformance of his career," UFC President Dana White said. "I thought he never looked better than he did tonight." He opened his pre-fight walk with the dance Lewis made his signature move. The former Baltimore Ravens linebacker had a cageside seat and stood several times to root on Jones. Chandler Jones and Arthur Jones, his NFL-playing brothers, also attended and sat near Lewis. Arthur Jones, who plays for the Colts, was a Super Bowl champion with Lewis and the Ravens. Often booed, the fighter nicknamed "Bones" turned Baltimore into a home-cage advantage and showed Lewis that perhaps imitation was the sincerest form of battery. "It was great to have the crowd on my side again," he said. "I practiced that dance all day today. Ray was happy." Teixeira (22-3) ended a 20-bout winning streak that dates nine years. "To beat a guy who hasnt lost in 20 fights, I cant complain about that peformance," Jones said. Jones was warned twice about eye pokes in the first two rounds and was threatened to have a point deducted if he did it again. No need. He battered and bloodied the challenger, opening a cut over Teixeiras right eye, and sending his mouthpiece flying with a hard right. Jones took down Teixeira in the final seconds of the fourth and pounded away on his face before the horn sounded. He was in complete control in his latest dominant performance, something he vowed to do after he took a pounding the last time out against Alexander Gustafsson. Jones, one of UFCs biggest active pay-per-view draws, pinned Teixeira against the cage several times and wore him down with body shots. White said Gustafsson and Jones will have a rematch next. "I had to answer a lot of questions after my last fight," Jones said. "Had I lost my mojo? I answered those tonight." Just blocks away from Camden Yards, the real heavy hitters were inside Baltimore Arena for UFCs debut in the city. In the co-main event, Anthony "Rumble" Johnson cruised to a unanimous decision victory over former Penn State wrestler Phil Davis. Johnson fought for UFC for the first time in more than two years after he was cut once before for repeatedly failing to make weight. White welcomed Johnson back with one caveat, he would never return if he failed to make weight for the Davis bout. Johnson made weight for the 205-pound bout -- and made Davis pay. He busted open Davis near his left eye with a flurry of strikes early in the first, stopped all eight takedown attempts over three rounds and won 30-27 on all three cards. Looking at White, Johnson expressed gratitude for his second chance. "Mr. Dana White, thank you for what you did," he said. "Hes the man who changed me. Hes the man who turned me into a beast!" Earlier on the pay-per-view card, Max Halloway choked out Andre Fili in the third round and Jim Miller did the same against Yancy Medeiros in the first round. Luke Rockhold tapped out Tim Boetsch in the first round to keep UFC 172 humming along. "Its the night of guillotines, I guess," Miller said. With UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in her corner, Jessamyn Duke dropped a unanimous decision to Bethe Correia in the only womens bout. Rousey, perhaps UFCs biggest star, accompanied Duke to the octagon and shook her head in disgust after the scores were announced. "I thought I had it," Duke said. "I knew it was going to be close, but I really thought the fight was mine." Rousey coached Duke on "The Ultimate Fighter" and they train together with other female fighters known as "The Four Horsewomen." Rouseys appearance had fans standing and snapping pictures and was a highlight among the preliminary bouts. Chris Beal opened the card with a flying right knee that connected flush on Patrick Williams chin for a KO. "This might have been the most perfect flying knee Ive ever seen!" White tweeted. Chris Paul Jersey . On Thursday, they signed former Browns linebacker DQwell Jackson. Terms of the deal were not immediately available. Marcin Gortat Jersey . "First, I would like to offer my deepest and sincerest apologies for any harm I have inflicted on University of Missouri defensive lineman, Michael Sam," the statement read. http://www.clippersnbateamshop.info/luc-...ersey/.com) - Theres nothing better for a team than to send out the staff ace in the most important game of the season. Austin Rivers Jersey . -- The Sacramento Kings and guard Jimmer Fredette have completed a buyout of his contract, clearing the way for the former BYU sensation to become a free agent. Blake Griffin Jersey . The alley-oop looked easy -- just like everything else after halftime for the Miami Heat. James scored 32 points, Wade added 22 points and eight assists, and the Heat trailed by 11 early in the second half before running away to a 107-88 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night.TORONTO – Two times in the past three seasons, the hockey team from Toronto has collapsed under city-rattling circumstances, including a rapid descent from near-certain playoff entry last season. In between was a valiant stab at the first Leaf post-season series win in years from a feisty, competitive group – albeit, one that probably benefited from the 48-game schedule. Looking to recapture some of that magic, Leafs management made character, attitude, leadership and qualities of mental fortitude high priorities in their bid at roster reconstruction on July 1st. Led by president Brendan Shanahan and incumbent general manager Dave Nonis, the club reacquired two players from that 2013 squad – Leo Komarov and Matt Frattin – also adding 37-year-old Stephane Robidas to a defence that recently replaced the steady Carl Gunnarsson with edgy-type Roman Polak. “Part of it is always about character,” said Nonis, shortly after 5pm et, when the Leafs first crack at free agency ended. “I dont think that we have a character issue with our team or our players, but I think adding people like Leo and Robidas to [the roster] only strengthens it. The compete level that we had two years ago, I think was at or near the top of the league. We got more out of our players – the coaches did – the players, themselves, did in terms of pushing each other, than we did last year. No question about it.” Randy Carlyle couldnt summon much in the way of explanation as to why things unraveled for the Leafs so epically months earlier, but did notice something amiss with the attitude of his group. “We lacked the compete,” he said, while at the draft in Philadelphia this past weekend. “I look at compete as part of the character flaw.” It was clear management sensed something similar, though character and leadership would hardly encompass the Leafs woeful defence and penalty-killing, targeting players in free agency or on the trade market who were known for their high compete level. In addition to Komarov and Robidas, the club also made pitches to keep gritty, but soon-to-be overpaid, Dave Bolland, 38-year-old former Team Canada defender Dan Boyle and long-time Montreal heart-and-soul type, Josh Gorges. Robidas, who was signed for three years at $9 million, offers the Leafs a much-needed veteran upgrade in their top-four, a long-time Dallas Star whos physical, blocks shots and has the ability to play in every situation. A right-handed defender, in short supply for the club a year ago, and veteran of 885 regular season games, Robidas brings a savvy that was lacking on a mismatched back-end last season. “It was a factor,” Nonis said of character when it came to Robidas, who suffered two separate, broken right-leg injuries last season, but will be ready for training camp. “The people that I know that know him, that Brendan knows, speak very highly of the way he handles himself, on and off the ice. I dont think were looking at a guy thats going to come in here and be terribly vocal or anything like that, but in terms of playing the game the right way, taking care of yourself and leading by example, that coupled with being a right-shot and his playing ability, he was the guy we targeted right away.” Komarov bolted for the KHL after that 2013 campaign, but was eager to return to the NHLL-lifestyle this fall.dddddddddddd He garnered considerably more than the club appeared willing to pay just one year earlier, four years at $2.95 million per season, and quite a bit for a player who was limited offensively as a Leaf. It was clear, however, that Nonis and company valued the Finnish wingers scrappy play and were also hopeful of more upside with more opportunity next season. “Hes a very competitive guy,” said Nonis of Komarov, who had nine points in 42 games with the Leafs. “Hes going to give you whatever he has … He has compete. He gets under peoples skin by the way he plays, not because hes a chirper or anything like that, but he finishes every single check and, sometimes, I think people dont really enjoy the way he does that. But for us, he brought that element; he brought some character to our group. He was very well-liked by his teammates. All the things that you look for in a player, he ticks a lot of boxes.” Polak, too, was added from St. Louis earlier with an eye toward the “edge” he would bring to the Toronto defence, a quality infinitely enduring to the head coach. But for the all the focus on injecting the Leafs dressing room with more bite, increased leadership and character, its Carlyle and the still-yet-to-be-named coaching staff that bear the most watching next season. For whatever the Leafs lacked in determination and persistence last year – and there was a noticeable difference – it was their inability to defend with any degree of success that instigated their downfall last season. No team, as widely known by this point, allowed more shots than Toronto and only three teams allowed more power-play goals. It was a house of cards that was bound to collapse and did when Jonathan Bernier went down with injury in mid-March. And for all his drum-beating about the troubles, and he was quick to point flaws as early as October, Carlyle and his since-deposed trio of assistants could not find the right answers, instill a defensive mindset onto a sometimes immature roster, employ top line-ups and align the talent in place with a suitable style of play. All that will have to change and its up to Carlyle to adjust accordingly. The coming season wont be about leadership concerns or questions of character, but whether a head coach can adapt to a younger and faster league. Robidas, Polak and Komarov should help to address some of the defensive deficiencies of last year – also fitting Carlyles harder brand of hockey – particularly a penalty kill that fell right back to the bottom of the league last season. Roster holes still to be filled include a centre capable of playing in a third or fourth-line capacity – Peter Holland is in line for regular opportunity, but a security blanket for Carlyle is likely preferred – perhaps another defenceman, with Cody Franson likely on the way out, some scoring depth and a backup goaltender, though, Nonis continues to insist that James Reimer could be back next year, despite clear indications of his desire to move elsewhere. Some of those changes could come internally with a round of Marlies keen to take the next step into the NHL. The Leafs additionally have about $15 million in cap space to work with a group of restricted free agents, Jake Gardiner most prominently among them, still to sign. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

The 66-year-old Hart agreed to a three-year contract that will continue through the teams first season at its new stadium in Cobb County.Hart became interim general manager Sept. 22. The team had sought a full-time replacement for Frank Wren, who was fired last month after a 79-83 finish this season.Hart, Schuerholz and former Braves manager Bobby Cox formed the GM search committee. Hart said last month his only interest was in the interim job, but Schuerholz, the team president, wouldnt accept that as a final answer. We met as transition team quite a number of times and when we were at the meetings invariably Id pull out my list and Id say OK, are we going to talk about the GMs? Hart said. At some point John would get up, hed take a phone call, hed go to the bathroom. ... I think all along I did feel and know that John clearly wanted me to take this job.Hart, the former GM for the Rangers and Indians, joined the Braves last year as a senior adviser.Schuerholz described Hart as a man who has demonstrated great ability in constructing winning baseball organizations, winning baseball teams, creating staffs of very capable people empowered to doo great jobs in each of the organizations he has run.ddddddddddddHart said he has turned down similar opportunities with other teams that lacked the personal component he has with Schuerholz.Schuerholz, who was the Royals GM before taking over as the Braves GM in 1990, returned to Kansas City for Game 1 of the World Series this week. He said he was asked by owners and executives why he hadnt convinced Hart to take the full-time role in Atlanta.Schuerholz said he was told it would be great to have Hart back in baseball. So I was motivated by that and came back and had my last and final conversation with my dear friend, Schuerholz said. I was able to persuade him this was the place to be and this was the organization he could have so much of an impact on in a very positive and energetic way and get us to where we want to be, and thats at the very top, the gold standard baseball organization that we have always been regarded as.Schuerholz said assistant GM John Coppolella will be Harts right-hand man.Coppy was a big part of the reason I took this job, Hart said. AUSTIN, Texas -- Lance Armstrong has been ordered to give sworn videotaped testimony next month about using performance-enhancing drugs to win the Tour de France seven times. Armstrong has been sued by a Texas company seeking the return of about $12 million in performance bonuses. An arbitration panel has issued subpoenas for testimony from Armstrong on June 12 and his longtime business manager Bill Stapleton on June 9. The cyclist has asked the Texas Supreme Court to intervene. He says a previous settlement with SCA Promotions is binding and cannot be reopened. Armstrongs attorneys noted the subpoenas in a request for the Supreme Court to rule quickly. Armstrong provided written sworn testimony last year in an unrelated lawsuit, and for the first time provided names of those he says assisted in his doping. Authentic Valeri Nichushkin Jersey . Wayne Gretzky came along and scored 894 NHL goals and they called him The Great One. John Tavares, a superstar in Canadas other officially designated national sport, joined them in an elite echelon of athletic achievement by scoring his 800th pro indoor goal on Saturday. "Hes the epitome of lacrosse as a player and as a person," says Buffalo Bandits teammate Anthony Cosmo, who has been reunited with Tavares after sharing Mann Cup triumphs while keeping in shape with him in summer amateur play. "Hes Mr. Lacrosse to me. Hes an amazing leader, an amazing lacrosse player. Its been an absolute pleasure playing with him." Tavares is 45 and in his 23rd season with the Bandits of the National Lacrosse League. Hes originally from Toronto, hes in a classroom weekdays teaching high school math in Mississauga, and he is an uncle of the NHL player of the same name. He scored his 800th goal in Buffalo on Saturday at 13:49 of the third quarter. Tavares scored his 800th on a power play at the 13:49 mark of the third quarter in Buffalos 16-13 loss to Calgary on Saturday. He had the ball to the left of Roughnecks goalie Mike Poulin, stepped towards the middle of the floor, and bounced a ball into the net from just outside the crease late in the third quarter, lifting most of the 16,606 spectators out of their First Niagara Center seats. "The nice thing about scoring the 800th is that theres no pressure for the next 99," he quipped afterwards. Hes also amassed in excess of 1,700 points. All of his numbers are NLL career scoring records. "I really dont care for milestones but, obviously, its a huge achievement to score 800 in the league for the number of games (293) that Ive played," he says. Buffalos Memorial Auditorium, where he scored his first two goals in a 1992 game against the defunct New York Saints, was razed long ago but Tavares is playing as if he could be around for a while yet. His 2014 season has been inspiring to everybody who has watched. Hes scoring as frequently as he was 10 years ago. "Im not trying to beat Gordie Howes record," he replies when asked if he could play until hes 52, like Howe. "No way. I have to run. Im not wearing skates out there." Tavares has been a key contributor this season. The Bandits are 8-6 so far in their 18-game schedule. "It makes it a lot more fun when youre winning," he says. Edmonton GM-coach Derek Keenan was a teammate of Tavares on that first-year Bandits outfit back in 92. Tavares showed exceptional talent right from the start of his rookie season as he was helped along by veteran teammates such as Kevin Alexander. "It was jaw-dropping how talented he was," says Keenan. Still is. The other night, he leapt with one hand on his stick in an attempt to score from behind the net and just missed. "John always morphed his game to suit his age or injuries," says Keenan. "He was an exciting inside player who dove the crease 10 times a game and played in the dirty areas. He rarely missed around the net when he had a chance in tight. He did that for a long time. Now his outside shooting is just unbelievable. "Thats been going on for 10 years. That started in his late 20s." The intensity level has never diminished. "Hes a competitor," says Keenan. "He can be nasty. Hes as tough as nails, and fearless. You wont come across a tougher competitor." Tavares pondered quitting after the disappointments of 2013 but opted to forge ahead. "My kids are always telling me, Daddy, one more year, one more year," he explains. The brass urged him to continue, too. "People like (GM) Steve Dietrich still felt I had something left in me so I came back." New coach Troy Cordingley gives him plenty of mminutes on the green carpets of the NLL.dddddddddddd "Hes the ultimate team player," says Cordingley. "Hes not worried about his goals or assists, hes worried about wins. "Hes unbelievable. Hes a great leader in our dressing room. He is not one bit worried about any individual stats. Hes just concerned about wins and thats the best kind of leader to have on your team." Cordingley was an assistant coach with the Bandits when they last won the NLL championship in 2008, he was a defenceman in Buffalo during his playing days, and he coached against him when he stood behind benches in Calgary and Toronto, so he knows Tavares well. "Hes a smart player," says Cordingley. "You have to try to outsmart him, which is pretty difficult. He knows where to go in open spaces. Hes a little bit slower than he was but hes so smart. He does other things off ball, too, to create space for other guys." Jim Veltman was a pro teammate of Tavares from 1992 through 1996, when they won a third title together. Veltman then captained the Toronto Rock to five championships in seven years through 2005. Meanwhile, they were summer teammates winning Canadian amateur titles with teams in Brampton, Ont., and in Victoria, when they last played together in 2003. "It was a thrill Ill never forget," Veltman says of hoisting the Mann Cup with Tavares in 03. "Just to be able to play with John again was a big reason why I played that year in Victoria." They shared a lot of laughs. "He makes the game fun," says Veltman, who retired in 2008. "He sees the game in a whole different light than most players. "Hes one of those guys you play with and you see him do something special and you think, Wow, Ive never seen anything like that before. Hes like a kid in a playground. Most guys never tried some of the stuff he tried because theyd be afraid the coach would yell at you, but not John." Veltman recalled a trick Tavares used early in his career. A teammate would carry the ball behind the opposing teams net. Tavares would manoeuvre to the front of the crease and fall to his knees as if hed been hit. Hed hold his stick up in front of his chest. The teammate behind the net would hit the target with a pass and Tavares would score from his knees. Some of his antics off the floor were hilarious. During that 03 Mann Cup series, "Wed lost one of the games and everybody was feeling the pressure," Veltman recalls. "Guys were saying, Weve got to win, weve got to win and John came to the rink in womens underwear or whatever it was to loosen things up." It worked. Longtime NLL coach Bob Hamley was another 92 teammate. "He has been able to do what he has done because of his lacrosse IQ and his compete level," says Hamley. "I consider lacrosse players to be competitive people but John was and is at another level when it comes to competing. You combine this with his on-floor intelligence and it made him what he is today. His drive and intelligence are unmatched." Paul Day was on that 92 Buffalo team too. Day grew up in Peterborough and played against Tavares in his youth. "John already had an unbelievable stick when he was 12 years old," recalls Day, who is an assistant coach with the Rochester Knighthawks. "I remember slashing him a few times in junior, trying to get under his skin, and he wouldnt even look at you because you couldnt rattle him." There is much more to Tavares game than piling up scoring points. Day remembers a game when they had just turned pro in which Tavares laid out an opponent. "He hit a guy at centre, an open-floor hit that was one of the best ones Ive ever seen in lacrosse," he recalls. "What can you say about him now? Hes the best of all time, the best Ive ever seen." cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

KELOWNA, B.C. - When Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier didnt make Canadas team for the Sochi Olympics, the ice dancers put themselves on autopilot. It was the low point on a roller-coaster season of crazy highs and heartbreaking lows.We really had to keep moving forward, so we had to go home, take it one day at a time really, because we couldnt really dwell on: Well, that was it, Gilles said. We had to turn our minds off for a little bit.Gilles, from Toronto, and Poirier, from Unionville, Ont., captured a silver medal in ice dance at Skate Canada International on Saturday night, and reflected on how far theyve come from last season. Its so nice to be prepared coming into the Grand Prix season this year, I think there are so many positives coming out of this competition, Poirier said.Their Sochi Olympic campaign got off to a nightmare start when Poirier broke his ankle in May of 2013, a break so severe it took three plates and 13 screws to repair it. He wasnt back on the ice until August, and the two werent able to do full run-throughs of their programs until about three weeks before their Grand Prix debut last November. All the while, the American-born Gilles was nervously waiting for her Canadian citizenship, which she was finally awarded a few weeks before the Olympic trials, making her eligible to compete for Canada in Sochi. It wasnt to be — they would finish fourth at the trials, narrowly missing the team. The first couple days (of Sochi) were hard for me, Gilles said. I couldnt watch the first couple of days. But then once your competitors and your friends are all there, youre like, OK, I have to, because you want to cheer them on. And as hard as it is for you, it still gives you the motivation for the next four years.Gilles and Poirier, who are both 22, didnt have much time to dwell on their disappointment. They were named to the Four Continents team, where they finished second, and then were replacements for Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir on Canadas team for the world championships, where they finished eighth.I think more at the end of the season, it was like: Aw man!, Gilles said on not making the Sochi team. But we did worlds and we had a positive worlds, so that kind of helped the negative part of it.It gave us a lot of momentum going into this season and we saw what we could achieve with training behind us, and weve tried to really embrace that this season, Poirier added.Gilles and Poirier say they already have more training under their belts this season than they did all of last year, and with the changing landscape of ice dancing post-Olympics — both Virtue and Moir and U.S. Olympic champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White are taking the season off to contemplate their futures — are keen to position themselves among the worlds best.We really want to make a big statement this year, said Poirier, who was 14th at the Vancouver Olympics with former partner Vanessa Crone. We really want to show were contenders in this quadrennial, and I think it has to start now. Weve really been pushing ourselves because now is the time where we can really break into the ranks.Looking back on the stresses of last season, especially the nerve-wracking wait for citizenship, Gilles said, I wouldnt change it.Were still hoping for our goal, a medal, for the next one, so were still pushing, she added. The end goal is still the same, Poirier said. And were still hoping to get there three and a half years from now. Cheap Lakers Jerseys . Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Cody Zeller scored a career-high 21 points and the Charlotte Hornets rolled to a 104-86 win over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 17 points and 13 rebounds and Al Jefferson and Jason Maxiell each scored 14 for the Hornets, who missed all 11 of their 3- point attempts but led by as many as 36. Lance Stephenson contributed 13 assists off the bench in the win. Danilo Gallinari had 15 points to lead the Nuggets, who have lost nine of their last 10. Zellers previous career high was 20 points in a 104-95 win over Boston on Jan. 5. He was most of the way there after scoring 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting in the first quarter, when the Hornets shot better than 54 percent for a 30-15 lead going into the second. Denvers last lead was 13-12 but it was followed by an 18-2 run to end the quarter that gave the Hornets the lead for good. Zeller had 12 points during the flurry, including eight in a row during one stretch. The lead reached 32 by halftime and was as high as 36 in the third quarter on a Kidd-Gilchrist free throw with 9:45 remaining. The Nuggets only managed to get it under 20 down the stretch. You can watch the game live starting at 4pm et/1pm pt on TSN1, TSN3, TSN4 and TSN5 or listen on TSN Radio 1050 Toronto starting at 3pm et/12pm pt. The Argos and the Alouettes will square off at Rogers Centre. Toronto, Montreal and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are tied atop the East Division with 6-8 records with each having four regular-season games remaining. The Argos would not only move two points ahead of the Als with a win but also clinch the season series, giving them a crucial tiebreaker if the two ended up tied. That could be a key advantage as Hamilton, Toronto and Montreal are likely chasing two playoff spots due to the crossover. The B.C. Lions (8-7) are fourth in the West Division but would secure the No. 3 Eastern seed if they finished with a better record than the third-place team in the East Division. We do know that probably only two teams are making it into the playoffs so you severely hurt your chances when you lose any of those four remaining games, Higgins said Friday. Never put a must on top of the start of a win. Were going to line up, were going to play, were going to play very well and were going to win the football game and not have to worry about whether it was a must or just a maybe win. Theres no shortage of intrigue and suspense heading into the final four weeks as all remaining games are inter-division affairs with only Ottawa having been eliminated from playoff contention. Toronto and Montreal meet again Nov. 2 at Molson Stadium. Toronto coach Scott Milanovich called last weekends thrilling 34-33 comeback win over Hamilton a must for his team but didnt put the same emphasis on Saturdays contest. If we win this game, it puts us in a much better position moving forward, he said. The reality was if we didnt beat Hamilton last week we were basically going to be out of the first-place hunt so I wasnt going to hide that from our guys. The Argos and Alouettes have both been on a nice roll of late. Toronto has won three straight while Montreal is 5-1 with starter Jonathan Crompton. But Crompton hasnt been spectacular. Hes completed 58.9 per cent of his passes for 1,512 yards with seven TDs and seven interceptions. Crompton hasnt thrown for over 300 yards in a game and has just one road win, a 15-7 decision over Ottawa on Sept. 26. Everyones looking at stats, Higgins said. The only one we care about is hes won five and lost one as a starting quarterback. Milanovich praised Crompton for utilizing such offensive playmakers as receivers Duron Carter (54 catches, 712 yards, five TDs) and S.J. Green (38 receptions, 518 yards, two touchdowns). I get the quarterback point .dddddddddddd . . but I think hes playing well, he said. Hes trusting his receivers, which is exactly what Id do if I was him. When you have a defence like theirs and playmakers like they do and returners on special teams, anything can happen. Cromptons status as Montreals starter was further solidified Thursday after the club released former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith. But Higgins said that hasnt put more pressure on Cromptons shoulders. Quite the opposite, he said. I think theres pressure thats been alleviated because there was this pressure that there was an elephant in the room. Theres no doubt starter Ricky Ray has carried the Argos this season. The 34-year-old Californian leads the CFL in passing yards (3,861), touchdowns (27) and completion percentage (68.6) and has Toronto ranked first in total yards (361.6) and passing yards (287.2) per game and third in scoring (26.8 points). Thats hardly news to Higgins. He was Edmontons head coach from 01 to 04 and watched an unheralded Ray crack the roster as a No. 3 quarterback in 02 before capping his first season as the starter in 03 as a Grey Cup champion. His mentality hasnt changed from the first time he stepped on to the football field in Edmonton, Higgins said. Hes just one of the elite quarterbacks in the CFL and anytime you have Ricky Ray as your quarterback you always have a chance. The key, Higgins said, is getting to Ray before he can set up and find his receivers downfield. Were going to see if we can get after him, Higgins said. We know that presents a challenge but were up to challenges. Its kind of the same approach Toronto will take against Crompton. With any quarterback I still think the most important thing is to take away his running game, and then you have to put pressure on him, Milanovich said. You have to take away his running game then knock him on the ground a few times. Toronto will make a number of roster changes for the game. Offensively, receivers Spencer Watt and Jason Barnes go on the injured list, replaced by LaVon Brazill and Maurice Mann. The secondary will feature Evan McCollough (from practice roster) at halfback, Vincent Agnew moving from linebacker to replace Branden Smith at one cornerback spot and Orhian Johnson (practice roster) starting at the other. Matt Ware assumes Agnews linebacker position. Im not as concerned as youd think, Milanovich said. All these guys have played and started quite a few games. Its not ideal, Im not going to lie to you but these arent rookies and to me thats a big deal. Special-teams player Daryl Townsend (calf) and receiver Chad Johnson (groin) wont play for Montreal. Johnson, a former All-Pro, has just seven catches for 151 yards and a TD in his first CFL season. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Radim Vrbata is peaking at the right time. Vrbata had a goal and two assists to lead the Phoenix Coyotes to a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Vrbata also had the lone shootout goal in Mondays 4-3 win at Tampa Bay. Vrbata is second on the team with 19 goals, trailing Antoine Vermette at 22, and has six points in the last four games. "When the puck is finding the back of the net for him, it just seems like hes got that extra step," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Mike Ribeiro also scored for the Coyotes. Mike Smith made 31 saves. "Sometimes we struggle to score goals, we need our goal scorers to be putting the puck in the net," Smith said. "Vrby has played well as of late." Phoenix won its second consecutive road game for the first time since Nov. 27 and Dec. 3. The Coyotes are one point behind Dallas for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. Brandon Pirri scored and Roberto Luongo stopped 23 shots for the Panthers. Florida has lost 10 of 13. The Panthers have only six goals in the last four games. Phoenix opened a 3-0 lead when Vrbata scored at 5:52 of the third. Vermette fed Vrbata in the right circle and he sent a wrist shot into an open net. "You score that one and you start feeling good about yourself," Vrbata said. "You get a couple of lucky bounces." The Panthers closed to 3-1 on Pirris power-play goal at 8:54 of the third. Pirris shot from high in the right circle touched several Coyotes players sticks and went over Smiths glove high in the net. It was Pirris first goal with Florida since he was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks on March 2. Smith had been stellar before Pirris goal. "Where we are in the standings and the desperation we should be playing with, your goaltender has to take a big part of that," Tippett said. "But its great to see everybody else chip in." The back-to-back games appeared to have little effect on Phoenix. "They played last night. I think we jumped on them early on," Panthers captain Ed Jovanovski said. "We had our chances, we just couldnt solve their goalie." The Coyotes took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal in the first. Ribeiro fired a one-timer from above the right circle that got past Luongo on the glove side at 17:43. Keith Yandle got the assist and leads the Coyotes with 45 points. He has seven points in his last seven games. The Coyotes scored again in the second. Ekman-Larsson shot from just inside the blue line on the left side and it went by a screened Luongo at 9:43. "Theyre a very disciplined team, theyre patient, they wait for the other team to make mistakes and obviously theyre fighting for a playoff spot right now, every game is important to them," Luongo said. "We saw that desperation tonight, guys v, and finding the net. They did whatever it took to win." NOTES: Coyotes F Martin Erat left in the first period with an upper-body injury. ... With the MLB Off-Season underway, many teams are looking to upgrade, find replacements, and make major renovations to their clubs. TSN.ca looks at the days hottest off-season rumors and speculations. White Sox want pitching Add the Chicago White Sox to the list of teams pursuing closer David Robertson. Along with their interest in Jeff Samardzija, the White Sox are looking to shore up a bullpen that posted a 4.38 ERA, bad enough for the third-highest in baseball. Chicago’s first round pick is protected, so the team would give away its second round selection as compensation if they sign Robertson. He rejected the New York Yankees’ qualifying offer earlier this off-season. It has been reported that Robertson is looking for a contract around four years and $50 million. Despite being the top closer on the free agent market, teams have been reluctant to offer big money to a reliever. Other teams in the mix for Robertson are the Yankees, Houston Astros and the Toronto Blue Jays. Posted Up South Korean shortstop Jung-ho Kang is expected to be posted next week for MLB teams to bid on. The 27-year-old has spent nine seasons in the Korean Baseball Organization. Last year, Kang batted .354 with 39 home runs. He is already drawing interest from the Athletics, New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants. While primarily a shortstop, teams like the Giants could use him at second or third base. Stubbs to Baltimore? In search of pitching, the Colorado Rockies contacted the Baltimore Orioles offering outfielder Drew Stubbs. Having lost Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis to free agency, the Orioles are left with a corner outfield of Alejandro De Aza, David Lough and Steve Pearce. Adam Jones will remain in centerfield. Stubbs would complement the Orioles’ lineup as a right-handed bat. Last season, he hit a career-best .289 with 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Zimmermann talking to Nationals The Washington Nationals have re-opened contract negotiations with pitcher Jordan Zimmermann. A fair comparison to an extension for Zimmermann could be Matt Cain, who posted similar numbers before being re-signed by the San Francisco Giants for six years and $127.5 million. Zimmermann has been an all-star the past two seasons, winning 19 games in 2013. He threw a no-hitter against the Miami Marlins in September. Authentic Ben Simmons Jersey . The Canadiens fell short in Game 4 with Matt Fraser scoring the 1-0 overtime goal to tie this series, but arent hanging their heads from yesterdays loss. "Im pleased with our team effort.,” coach Michel Therrien said at his post-game press conference last night. “The guys battled hard and when we got to overtime we knew the game could have gone both ways. It was a brave decision from Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie, but it worked to perfection. Rennies decision to leave the clubs leading scorer Camilo out of the lineup for Saturdays match at Montreal was a major talking point leading into the all-Canadian matchup, but the Scottish coach got the outcome he had been hoping for. Camilo was left out in favour of Tommy Heinemann, a big, strong, bustling forward. Speaking to Rennie ahead of the game he explained his decision was made largely due to the opposition. He wanted Heinemann on from the start to use his physical attributes against Montreals backline, and he planned to unleash Camilo late in the game when the Impact defence had been worn down. It worked a treat. The Whitecaps ended up beating Montreal 3-0 and giving a major boost to their fading playoff hopes. It was a third road win of the season and a second clean sheet in a row. There were plenty of nervous moments along the way, and some controversy as well, but the end result was probably better than Rennie had even dared dream about. Heinemanns inclusion had the desired effect early in the game, making a nuisance of himself around the Impacts central defensive pairing of Alessandro Nesta and Matteo Ferrari, and the Whitecaps early breakthrough came from the penalty spot as Kenny Miller scored to give them a seventh-minute lead. There was no doubt about the decision from referee Jorge Gonzalez who penalized Impact defender Hassoun Camara for a handball. That opportunity was created following a strong run down the right by Nigel Reo-Coker who had an excellent first half for Vancouver. The Impact had plenty of chances to equalize, hit the bar a couple of times, and had it not been for a string of good saves by Whitecaps Danish goalkeeper David Ousted, Montreal would have been back in the match. However, as they pushed forward looking for a leveling goal late in the game, Camilo came off the bench to score two in two minutes  – including a wonderstrike – to seal the points for the Caps. Its now 16 goals for the season for the Brazilian who sits two behind Montreals Marco Di Vaio for the league lead in scoring. The Impact will also point to an incident just before half time as a major turning point in the match. With the Whitecaps leading 1-0, referee Gonzalez awarded a penalty to Montreal following a long range strike by Patrice Bernier that struck Whitecaps midfielder Jun Marques Davidson around the top of the arm. Gonzalez then changed his mind following consultation with the other officials – although they were standing at halfway. It was a decision that Impact coach Marco Schallibaum called "a scandal," and Impact President Joey Saputo complained on Twitter: "PK or not, how does the furthest official on the field, overturn a referees call?" Saputo has a point. It was a situation that caused massive frustration because the referee was on the spot, made the call, and then seemed to changed his mind based on advice given by people much further away from the incident. However, even with the benefit of replays in the broadcast booth, it was very difficult for us to make a definitive call about whether it should have been a penalty. If the officials are not certain, they shouldnt give a spot kick. The result in Montreal leaves the Whitecaps in a much more positive position as they head home for back-to-back games against Real Salt Lake and Portland Timbers. The playoffs are still a long shot – that was only Vancouvers second win in 10 matches – but at least they are still alive. A win at home to RSL next Saturday (7pm et/4pm pt on TSN2) would see them climb to within one point of fifth-placed Colorado with four games remaining, two of which are against the Denver club. For the Impact, it was a concerning week. Despite playing well for periods in all three of their matches, they ended up with three defeats in a row (Two MLS, one Champions League) conceding eight goals in the process. By the end of the weekend, the Impact had fallen six points behind Eastern Conference leaders New York. Montreal are still third in the standings, but they are now just two points ahead of fourth-placed Houston Dynamo, and with an aging squad the Impact know the importance of finishing in the top three and avoiding the additional fourth vs. fifth match to open the playoffs. With back-to-back road games on the way against Chicago and Houston, Schallibaum will be hoping his team can tighten up defensively, whilst also showing a more clinical touch in front of goal. How can we tweak the system to make it less likely that teams are rewarded for losing records? NEW YORK -- Olli Jokinens third-period outburst for the Winnipeg Jets put any talk of a New York Rangers goalie controversy to rest. Not that there was much of one to begin with. Jokinen scored the go-ahead and insurance goals against rookie Cam Talbot and pushed the Jets to a 5-2 victory over New York on Monday night. By the time Blake Wheeler put a puck into an empty net in the final minute, Talbot was on the bench mulling his second NHL loss. "I thought I felt all right, still not where I wanted to be," said Talbot, who made 25 saves in his second straight start over Henrik Lundqvist. "Four goals is not going to cut it. I cant expect the guys to go and score five goals for me every night." Up until this one, three was plenty for Talbot to win. He already has two shutouts to his credit and he hadnt allowed more than two goals in his first seven starts -- a Rangers record. Jokinen broke a 2-2 tie with 7:18 left and scored again 5:24 later. The former Rangers forward, who also assisted on Devin Setoguchis tying goal in the second period, gathered the puck after a strange carom and fired it in. "Their guy just kind of rimmed it back behind the net," Talbot said. "I think it hit his skate right behind and ricocheted off and went out front. It actually did hit my stick, but it ended up right back at front. "Thats my fault. Ive got to put it right back to the corner," he added. Jokinen then squeezed his sixth of the season between Talbots pads to make it 4-2 with 1:54 left. Talbot had won six straight starts, including a victory Saturday over Vancouver in his Madison Square Garden debut when he made a career-best 35 saves. John Albert also scored in his NHL debut for Winnipeg, which got 35 saves from Ondrej Pavelec in the fourth-game of its season-high, six-game road trip (3-1). "This was a really great win," Jokinen said. "We played another solid road game. Im very glad to get the two goals and see Albert get his first goal on his first shot. "I was telling him about a guy back home who scored on his first seven shots, so hes got a ways to go," he said. Mats Zuccarello and Ryan Callahan had goals for New York (14-14). Rangers coach Alain Vigneault wouldnt reveal who the goalie would be Thursday at Buffalo. After that, New York will begin a nine-game homestand. The Rangers, 4-3 in their laast seven, havent been more than one over .dddddddddddd500 this season. "Were definitely not getting the traction that I know we want," Vigneault said. "The only way were going to get traction and get better is by playing more consistent hockey. Is this team a .500 hockey club? Were certainly playing like one." After the Jets took a 2-1 lead in the second, Callahan got the Rangers back even with his seventh, scored with 4:10 left in the second. Winnipeg turned the tide in the opening seven minutes of the period when the Jets outshot the Rangers 6-1, and that total didnt include drives by defencemen Dustin Byfuglien and Jacob Trouba, who hit the crossbar and right post, respectively, five minutes apart. The Jets then found the range. Setoguchi took a pass from Jokinen and snapped a shot that sailed between the legs of New York defenceman Michael Del Zotto and past Talbot. Byfuglien then intercepted a pass by Derick Brassard and sent a stretch pass to Albert for a breakaway. Albert moved in on Talbot and wristed a rising drive that nestled into the top left corner at 10:00. "Obviously, he didnt make the same amount of saves that he had done in the past," Vigneault said of Talbot, "but we certainly made his life challenging by how we played in front of him." Albert, recalled by the Jets on Sunday, flashed a wide grin as he received a series of high-fives from teammates as he skated in front of the bench. The puck -- it sat in his dressing room stall -- will go to his parents who live outside of Cleveland. "That was the greatest feeling Ive ever experienced," Albert said. "Especially to score at a key moment of the game the way I did. And to score my first goal at Madison Square Garden was extra special." The Rangers got the jump on the Jets, grabbing a 1-0 lead just 2:49 in on Zuccarellos fourth goal of the season. New York was helped by a blatant turnover by defenceman Keaton Ellerby. The puck came right to defenceman Ryan McDonagh, who fired a slap shot from inside the blue line at the left point that was deflected in by Zuccarello. NOTES: The Rangers fell to 12-3 when McDonagh has a point. ... The Jets won two of three from the Rangers last season. ... Setoguchi, Chris Thorburn and Trouba all had two points for Winnipeg. ... BATA, Equatorial Guinea - Guinea beat Mali to a place in the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals thanks to a lucky break in a random draw conducted at a hotel on Thursday.Guinea joins the likes of Algeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana in the last eight. Mali, after losing the cruel lottery, goes home.Heres why Guinea progressed through sheer chance, and some other things to know, ahead of the African soccer championships first knockout games this weekend:___GUINEA GETS LUCK OF THE DRAW: There was no other way to separate Guinea and Mali after they had three identical 1-1 draws in Group D to tie for second behind Ivory Coast. That meant the drawing of lots under tournament rules. An official from each country picked a ball out of a bowl. In one, there was a piece of paper with the No. 2 printed on it. In the other, a No. 3, indicating what would be the final ranking of the teams, and who would take the second qualifying place behind the Ivorians. The Guinean official made the right choice, letting a big smile spread across his face before showing the lucky No. 2 to observers. We have no other choice, Confederation of African Football President Issa Hayatou said before the draw, which was criticized by both teams as a cruel way to decide who stays and who is eliminated. CAF say they will consider changing the rule. The drawing of lots is rare but not completely unprecedented. It happened in 1988, when Algeria progressed at the expense of Ivory Coast.ALGERIA-IVORY COAST CRUNCH GAME: This year, Algeria and Ivory Coast are rated the best teams, but will meet sooner than expected. Top-ranked in Africa, Algeria was edged to first place in Group C by Ghana, setting up a quarterfinal meeting with the star-studded Ivorians, winners of Group D and led by Manchester Citys Yaya Toure. While Algeria is undergoing a recent revival, Ivory Coast has a painful history of near misses at the Cup of Nations. It has lost two finals in the last five tournaments on penalty kicks. Sundays knockout game in Malabo, which should see the return of Ivory Coast forward Gervinho from a two-game suspension, is the biggest of the 2015 tournament so far.LEGEND OF LE ROY: Claude Le Roy has reached the quarterfinals in seven of his record eight African Cups as a coach. Hes done it with five different countries. Le Roys latest success is with Republic of Congo, a champion 45 years ago but now a rank outsider that won its first game at the tournament since 1974 when it beat Gabon last week. It is into the quarters this year as Group A winner. The team and Le Roy — an unmistakable figure with his spectacles, toothy grin, and floppy blond hair — have had a pretty rough ride in Equatorial Guinea off the field. They were given a hotel that had no running water. Without a proper escort, their bus got caught in a traffic jam and they nearly missed their opening game. The bus then broke down on a three-hour road trip to another match. Unflappable, Le Roy hasnt let it affect the campaign. No, no. I am happy every day of my life, he said when asked if he was getting angry with the organizers.HOST HUNTS HISTORY: Equatorial Guinea shouldnt even be at the tournament after being thrown out for fielding an ineligible player in qualifying. But Morocco was dumped as host nation and the tournament given to Equatorial Guinea, meaning the team was back in. And its making the most of it.Equatorial Guinea has little soccer history to call on, but has ridden a wave of rowdy home support to make the last eight under Argentine coach Esteban Becker, who was appointed just before the African Cup kicked off.QUARTERS MOVED: The hurried preparations after the late change of host nation have come at a cost. Hastily built stadiums in the remote eastern cities of Ebebiyin and Mongomo have held up, but the fields havent. So, all four quarterfinals will be at the established venues in the bigger cities of Bata and Malabo. That makes for two doubleheaders: Bata hosts the first two quarters back-to-back on Saturday, and Malabo has the second two on Sunday. For fans at the stadiums, thats at least 180 minutes of soccer, and not just 90. Maybe more, if extra time and penalties are needed.___AP Sports Writer Chris Lehourites contributed to this story from Malabo.___Gerald Imray is on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/GeraldImrayAP Twins Eddie Rosario Jersey . Ten birdies? Im not sure I have done that in my golf career.Top-ranked Rory McIlroy and American star Rickie Fowler were also playing their first tournaments of 2015, and fed off each others brilliant putting on their back nines to shoot 67s.McIlroys round was revived by a superb, improvised wedge shot from the lip of a fairway bunker on his 12th hole, setting up the first of five birdies in his last seven holes.I was just trying to get it on the green, McIlroy said about his impudent 95-yard shot from an awkward stance that revived memories of the late Seve Ballesteros. From looking like going 1 over to finishing 5 under, Im very happy.Unheralded Belgian Thomas Pieters shot a 65 to lie alone in second place, with five players — Branden Grace, Gregory Bourdy, first-year tour player Tyrrell Hatton, Alexander Levy and Mikko Ilonen — tied for third on 6 under.Kaymer ripped up his usual festive routine — which can involve hitting some balls on Christmas Day at his base in Arizona — and spent time at home in Germany and on the ski slopes of Italy, where he enjoyed learning a new sport.Life is not all about golf, Kaymer said. It was nice to find a hobby that is challenging for me.He wont be giving up the day job, though.Kaymer lost form after winning the Players Championship and the U.S..dddddddddddd Open midway through last year, but was back to his best on what he calls his home course in making four birdies on the front nine and six coming in. Three birdies were from more than 18 feet. With a second place and a sixth place to go with his three titles at the Abu Dhabi Golf Course, Kaymer is the man to beat this week — even with McIlroy around. The only swings McIlroy made over the month either side of Christmas were practice ones in his kitchen at home. The break didnt do him any harm, either. His first shot of 2015 was a 315-yard drive down the middle of the par-5 10th fairway and he birdied the hole for the perfect start to his attempt to win this tournament for the first time, after three runner-up finishes since 2011.McIlroys short game made up for some errant drives for the rest of his front nine but the spectacular shot on No. 3 proved to be a catalyst. With one foot in the face of a bunker and the other out of the hazard, he had to open the face of his wedge and dig out a shot that landed 12 feet away. It brought the biggest cheer of the day from a sparse crowd at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Its not a shot I practice a lot, said McIlroy, who holed from 15 feet on No. 4, 10 feet on Nos. 5 and 7 and eight feet on No. 8 for birdies that allowed him to chase down Fowler. The American, who lost out to McIlroy in the British Open and U.S. PGA Championship last year, upstaged his rival by making six birdies in 11 holes starting at No. 15 — his sixth hole. However, Fowler sent his approach at the last through the green, misjudged a flop shot on the way back and missed a 10-foot par putt to slip back level with McIlroy.Second-ranked Henrik Stenson had a double-bogey on his first hole and didnt make any birdies in a 76. MILAN - Juventus eased to a 3-1 win at relegation-threatened Cagliari on Thursday to ensure it ended the year at the top of the Serie A standings.Early goals from Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal gave Juventus a comfortable lead in the opening 15 minutes, and Fernando Llorente sealed the match shortly after halftime.Luca Rossettini bagged a consolation goal for Cagliari.Juventus moved provisionally four points ahead of Roma, which hosts AC Milan on Saturday.Cagliari, which is the only Serie A side without a home win this season, remained in the bottom three. The match, which was part of the final round of fixtures before the winter break, was brought forward because Juventus plays Napoli in the rearranged Italian Supercup on Monday.Napoli beat bottom side Parma 2-0 and moved provisionally third, in a tight battle for the final Champions League qualifying spot. After seeing its advantage cut to one point last weekend with its second successive draw, Juventus determination to end the year on a high received the perfect start when Cagliari goalkeeper Alessio Cragno could only parry Giorgio Chiellinis effort and Tevez was on hand to tap the ball in, less than four minutes in.More poor defending saw Juventus double its advantage as Cagliari failed to deal with a cross and the ball came out to Vidal, who curled a magnificent strike into the far corner from just outside the box.Llorente extended Juves lead six minutes after the break when he gathered Andrea Pirlos lofted pass with his back to goal, swiveled, and fired under Cragnos body.Cagliari hadnt scored for three matches but managed in the 65th, as Rossettini headed home Andrea Cossus free kick.In Naples, Duvan Zapata fired the home side in front in the 19th minute, after using his strength to hold off defenders as he turned in the box.Not long after, Napoli doubled its lead from the penalty spot after Massimo Gobbi brought down Jose Callejon. Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante couldnt get enough of his hand to Dries Mertens spot kick.It was a 13th defeat in 16 matches for Parma, which also had a point docked because of financial irregularities. Juan Francisco and Colby Rasmus both went deep for the Blue Jays, who are second in the American League with 34 home runs on the season.MILWAUKEE -- Mark Reynolds raised his right index finger in the air as his game-ending RBI single bounced safely past the diving third baseman. The bearded slugger was mobbed at first by smiling teammates pulling on his jersey and patting his head. Reynolds hit drove home Rickie Weeks from third with two outs in the ninth, and the Milwaukee Brewers overcame Francisco Rodriguezs first blown save of the season for a 6-5 win Sunday over the New York Yankees. Rodriguez had given up a game-tying homer to Mark Teixeira on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the top of the ninth. No wonder the Brewers looked like a bunch of giddy Little Leaguers. "It was great, you come back the next half-inning and do that? Thats outstanding," manager Ron Roenicke said. It was the kind of scrappy victory Roenicke sought with third baseman Aramis Ramirez sidelined by a hamstring injury and outfielder Ryan Braun already on the disabled list with an oblique injury. He also gave another one of his top hitters, Jonathan Lucroy, a day off behind the plate. Rodriguez (1-0) did pick up the win. The Brewers typically stingy bullpen allowed two runs to New York, including Yangervis Solartes run-scoring single in the seventh that drew New York within a run. This time, the Brewers bats picked up the relievers. Weeks doubled just inside the first base line with one out before going to third on a wild pitch by reliever Adam Warren (1-2). Reynolds followed two batters later and delivered the hard chopper past Solarte to end the game. "I got 0-2, got ahead, one pitch away and didnt bury the pitch like I should have," Warren said. The back-and-forth final few innings took another roller-coaster turn in the top of the ninth when Teixeira reached out for a low-and-away changeup from Rodriguez for a homer to right. It was the first run allowed all season by Rodriguez, who blew his first save after 15 straight successful opportunities. "Sometimes youve got to pick them up because hes been picking us up a lot," Reynolds said. Reynolds finished 2 for 5, though his game-winner came by an unexpected fashion for someone known as a feast-or-faminee slugger and hitting .dddddddddddd35. "Great team win; everybody chipping in," Roenicke said. The Brewers found a way despite two more injury scares. Star outfielder Carlos Gomez was hit in the left forearm by a pitch from starter David Phelps in the third, causing him to writhe in pain a few seconds. He stayed in the game, and Roenicke said X-rays were negative. Starter Matt Garza limped off after fielding a comebacker that glanced off his left quad to end the fifth. Garza said he was fine. After falling behind 3-0 in the first, Milwaukee got three in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead. Weeks, who finished 3 for 5, drove in the final run that inning with a fielders choice. Phelps had a so-so outing in his second start of the season in place of the injured Michael Pineda. He allowed eight hits and walked three in five-plus innings, allowing the leadoff runner to reach base five times. "They were finding holes. Its frustrating," Phelps said. "I have to do a better job. They gave me a three-run lead early and I let them claw back in." But that performance might be good enough, for now, for a Yankees rotation battered by injuries. With Ivan Nova (elbow) already out for the season, the Yankees announced before the game that struggling left-hander CC Sabathia would join Pineda (upper back) on the disabled list with a right knee injury. Prior to the game, the Brewers gave Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter a gold-plated bat and a $10,000 check for his Turn 2 Foundation, which promotes healthy lifestyles among youth. The gifts were presented by Dick Groch, a special assistant to general manager Doug Melvin. Groch was the Yankees scout in 1992 who recommended the team draft Jeter in the first round that year. NOTES: Yankees C John Ryan Murphy groundout to second was overturned to an infield single in the eighth after manager Joe Girardi requested a replay review, which took 53 seconds. ...
